The $park of No Return$: Time Drops #3

Its a shame we wither away for the grind, just to barely make it Here we sit, itching .  Ambition to perform like the oils of poison ivy.  Survival through the hustle and bankrolls forcing us to scratch.  Society says it's a choice, but it's an ingrained necessity .  Drive or Die. Or maybe it's die while driving.  Waking up before the sun can stretch it's arms of light to counteract the fog of lack of sleep.  It's darkness deep like red roots in our eyelids, we try to erase em' with caffeine and energy drinks.  The aches, pains and groans as we move from one side of the dungeon to the death wagon,  anything for the scraps so we can pay the debts society waves in our faces once a month minimum.  "You chose this luxury, now you may suffer for it."  But you would think that basics in this world should be free.  We monopolize our lives to have more of what's out there. When will the illusion of profits, gains and losses end?...

The Shrouded Lantern - Time Drops #2

A Mysterious Blue Lit Lantern sits under a Darkened night sky filled with stars
Not a creature, not a relic, but an object that remembers the world in a way only mythic things do...

Notes From the Field: What's up fellow Outcasts? This is the second installment of the Time Drops series. If you missed the first, or wonder what it exactly is, do take a look at the first one titled The Flawed Teacup. I hope you enjoy!

I was recently given a descriptive writing prompt to practice on, and after two minutes of feeling it out, I dove right into the sea of unknown. The prompt was:

A lantern forged from the rib of a fallen star, its light flickering with the memories of every traveler who ever carried it.

It’s small enough to cup in one hand, but heavy with stories.
Its glow isn’t steady — it pulses like a heartbeat, as if deciding what to reveal and what to keep hidden.
When you tilt it, the light bends in impossible angles, illuminating things that aren’t physically there: echoes, regrets, half-formed futures.
The metal is warm, almost alive, and the handle hums faintly like it’s whispering a name you once forgot.

Take this lantern and run your sensory drill on it.
Let it show you something about yourself you didn’t expect

The sparkle on the barren grounds of the Elder's Garden caught my eye, its light reflecting a melancholy shade of blue like the elder's robe, withered and ripe with stories within the threads and bands. I step closer, the pulses resonating with the back of my soles striking the ground - no, whispering with a tip toe, not a single toe touching the ground. My heart fluttered as I asked in silence "what is this?"

The approach cautious yet almost predatory in the discovery. The light grew brighter like the excitement of a young child in front of a new toy, or better yet being found after being left alone and lost in darkness. A soft deep hum like monk chants at dawn near the temple fill the air as I inch closer.

I crouch, massaging the ground with strained hands to find something to help me feel safe and poke at the mysterious glow whose hue matched the fireflies of the sky. I rose to my feet and resumed my step, fearful of being discovered and fearful of what this light could do. but the hum...the enchanting chant became a mantra...that became voices of a thousand souls, voices all my own. Each voice encouraging me with a whisper..
"Come."
"Finally you're here."
"Spend time with me"

The words magnetic, tugging at my soul with a rope of truth; a chain of mystery intertwined. I lean forward like a bamboo tree in a windstorm, my branch extended to reach out and confirm safety with a poke, an extension of my own fingers.

The branch touched the light and the pulse snatched my breath with a gasp. The light flickered and popped like fireworks, engulfing me in glyphs of the unknown, visions of so many other humans, voices from beyond, the sweet scent of rosemary tickling my nose to the point of a sneeze. All my senses screamed in silence -

"You're safe..this is where you always wanted to be....free."
